Splurging in a salon blowout every week is unpractical, but the good news is that doing it yourself with the same results is possible with the right products and tips. Trust me, I have been there; the girl who will get a blow-dry at the salon and spend hours to leave sometimes with unpleasant results. I have curly, thick, frizzy hair, for that reason; my hair needs extra-care and preparation in order to get a good outcome. I have blow-dried my hair for years that my friends don’t even notice that I have curly hair until I tell them my secret (or my curly baby hairs start showing up like “hello”). For me, having a good blow-dry is the key to achieve a great hairstyle.
A good blowout starts in the shower; therefore, finding the products that help me achieve great results are the key when it comes to prepare my hair. For that reason, I couldn’t wait to get my hands on the John Frieda Colour Care which I found at my nearest Target location. As a fan of John Frieda hair products I didn’t hesitate to try out their new color care line. Since I recently color-treated my hair, I have been concerned about maintaining a long-lasting color, because my hair grows really fast, and I want to avoid damaging my hair or dying my roots very frecuently.
Lately, I have been using John Frieda Brilliant Brunette Visibly Brighter in-shower treatment that lightens up my hair to 1 shade instantly. As a brunette, it works perfectly to illuminate and maintain my highlights. It only lightens my natural spectrum, so my hair won’t appear bleached or orange. Then, I proceed to wash my hair with John Frieda Brilliant Brunette Visibly Brighter Shampoo and Conditioner; which gradually brightens for natural-looking sun-kissed brunette & illuminates glowing tones. The main feature about these products is the convenience to dye and maintain your hair while you shower.
HOW TO PREPARE YOUR HAIR TO MASTER A SALON BLOW-DRY
- After using John Frieda Brilliant Brunette Visibly Brighter Shampoo and Conditioner, rinse your hair with cool water to avoid the frizz usually caused by the hot steam water.
- Rinse your hair very well and make sure you remove all the hair conditioner excess. Leaving your hair with so much product won’t help you get the style you desire; it will only weight it down and prevent it from cooperating.
- Pat your hair with a towel without rubbing it because that can cause frizz.
- If you have time, leave your hair dry naturally for a little while before starting the blow-out.
- Brush your hair with a comb until you get it all untangle. This will help you to work easily on the hair with the hair brush.
- Using hair clips, divide your hair in four sections to focus the heat on smaller areas for an easier and quicker blow-dry.
- Brush shape matters. If you are going for volume and curls, use a round brush with a barrel from 1 3/4 to 2 1/2 depending on the length on the hair (the longer hair the bigger the brush).
- Protect your hair from heat damage with a heat protectant. I avoid this step because it makes my hair thicker and hard to manage; however, I apply leave-in conditioner to smooth my hair.
- Choose the right blow-dryer. Invest in a good hairdryer, the higher the number the more powerful the heat. Get a blow-dryer with at least 1800 watts to prevent frizz, and if you have a super thick hair go for as high as 2000 watts. Get a Ceramic/Tournaline technology to help to get your hair straighter, faster, with a shiny and smooth finish.
- Pull the brush as taut as you can. Go from the roots to the ends following the direction of the airflow; this will benefit the hair providing smooth and shine to your hair. Avoid drying one area for too long to elude the damage and dryness.
- Finally, finish up with a hair serum to add more shine and get rid of baby hairs and frizzy areas.
